One of the basic requirements for building is the right to use land. But how has this right, from common use to the introduction of ownership been legally formalised? Elisabetta Fiocchi Malaspina, will give an “Introduction to Land Law and Land Registration Systems in 19th and 20th-Century Switzerland” to help answer that question.

Elisabetta Fiocchi Malaspina is Assistant Professor of Legal History at University of Zurich. She specialises in the history of international and national political law. Her recent publications include “Entangled international and national legal orders in the long 19th century” (with Cahen et al., 2022), L’utile giusto. Il binomio economia e diritto per l’avvocato Giacomo Giovanetti (1787-1849)(2020), and Historical Perspectives on Property and Land Law (with Simona Tarozzi, 2019).
